December 2024
This has been a difficult year for a lot of people, with the backdrop of austerity and the increase in the cost of living, which have affected us all.
But despite the economic conditions, Club donations were similar to the level in 2023. Although some clubs reduced their donation, it is encouraging that 46 clubs donated this year versus 23 last year. This also suggests that the introduction of the Bowls Leicestershire M.A.T.C.H system prompted donations from clubs who may have missed the messages from other sources. As you know, the Benevolent Fund is a registered charity and we don't receive funding or donations from any other sources than the counties bowl clubs, affiliated associations and special events and matches. Unfortunately, we have seen a reduction of 60% in the funding from such events due to the demise of the Greenwood Cup, a reduction that we cannot hope to recoup.
The criteria for nominating a member of your club remains the same as last year and can be found on the Nomination Criteria page.
We are suggesting a nomination of £2 for each male bowler affiliated to Bowls Leicestershire. Again despite rising costs, this remains the same as last year.
The work that myself and the Trustees of the fund do is on a purely voluntary basis and we take no personal expenses.
Last year 70% of nominees were granted awards. This year, to date, 90% of nominees were granted and awards/gift. Throughout 2024, where possible, we have tried to make awards more personal. This has involved sending a gift rather than the 'All4One' gift card. I know from the letters of thanks from recipients that these have been well received. So, when making your nominations please include any information about the nominees other interests or hobbies. This will enable us to select an appropriate gift.
The Committee would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and hope that everyone remains fit and well for the 2025 season.
